Carol Stroll - Personal Statement
Can you see me, please
Look closely, I am here
Sometimes I hide inside myself
lonely and in fear
Take a moment, if you dare
and look beneath my skin
Hear my heart, see my soul
and I will let you in
The creative voice is within each of us. It can identify where we've been and give us hints of where we're going. The creative voice can ask questions and lead us to our answers. It can tell us what is happening within and around us from our own intensely personal perspective. Poetry can be a key to opening the door to the creative voice.
My work focuses on both children and adults in programs designed to bring them into the creative process. In my workshops inner awareness is encouraged through the poetic process. This leads to new understandings of the self and others.
I work with teachers in Professional Development programs. I have facilitated workshops for residents in a psychiatric hospital, for organizations to encourage team building and for private groups. I have the honor of being a faculty artist in CATA (Community Access to the Arts), a non-profit arts organization that provides visual and performing arts workshops for hundreds of individuals with physical, mental, and/or emotional disabilities.
In each workshop, which provides an environment of non-judgment, comfort and safety, the participants are able to open doors and explore their inner voices.
My voice has walked with me as long as I can remember. It is an honor to offer others the opportunity to explore their voices through the poetic process. |
